One of the most exciting things that happened this school year at HPCO is what took place each Thursday night. For the first time in three years, HPCO has it’s own youth group again! Thanks to a strong group of committed volunteers we felt we were able to again provide a youth group for our teens. We are so thankful for those who came out weekly to hang out with the teens and build relationships with them. Not only were those relationships being built on Thursday nights, but our volunteers would also keep up with their kids during the week.
Each week the kids would come and hang out at the ministry house for awhile (this including basketball, football, games etc). When it was time for Bible study, the guys would stay at the ministry house, and the girls would walk across the street to my (Sarah’s) house. This provided a way to keep it small and intimite and with minimal distractions. We broke up into even smaller groups when it came time to discuss the lessons. This year, we covered how to have a relationship with God and grow in that relationship, purity and other relative issues to our youth.
Everybody agreed that our most impactful week was the club before Easter. We had a time of praise and worship with the youth and then showed them part of “The Passion of the Christ” After watching this sobering film, the kids had a lot of good and thoughful questions. The theme that kept coming up was the fact that Jesus asked God to forgive His enemies. One of our boy’s reactions when he realized how true this statement was said “Wow, He forgave them? Then He’s for real!” It was great for them to see just how great God’s forgiveness is, and that it reaches out to them!
We also had some fun field trips over the year including a Tigers game, ice skating and laser tag! I am so thankful for the year that God gave us with the youth and pray the momentum carries on through the summer and into next year!

We are so thankful for committed volunteers like Kristen (who has been workign with our girls for three years). God is using them to change lives for Him!
